Camera monitoring

Post by Martin Blank »

I'm pretty sure this falls outside of Cacti's current capabilities (though seeing the network mapping template thread gives me doubts), but I'm trying to build a fairly wide-ranging monitoring architecture for the devices that my employer's network has, and will build upon.

Cacti works great for pulling temps and humidity, but we also have numerous cameras (all NetBotz for now, but soon to add non-NetBotz networked cams). I need to be able to pull live video (in the form of constantly refreshing JPG or PNG images) and display them running at the best speed possible given certain network conditions.

I've found one app called motion that I will be looking at, but are there others to consider? I went looking for something like this briefly a few months ago, and I could swear that I found something other than motion, but I've not been able to relocate it.

Can anyone provide advice on this? It would be very, very appreciated.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.
