Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hi,
i imported these templates successfully into my cacti 0.8.8b
when adding our 2 switches i get an snmp error
Brocade Silkworm440
Fabric OS: v6.0.1a
when doing the debug snmp query i get the following output:
+ Running data query [10].
+ Found type = '3' [SNMP Query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/brocade_interfaces.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP get for num of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.6.1.0' Index Count:
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.6.2.1.1' Index Count: 0
+ No SNMP data returned
Any Idea ?

UPDATE: i got this problem solved by allowing the cacti server in the Brocade Switches as SNMP Server. *blame on me*

i have found the problem.
description of Port was empty. If you fill it: query_ifdescr works fine
i have the same problem but don't understand where i need to set what to get the 0-23 numbering of the FC Ports.
Could someone please hlep me ?

Hi,
I suspect this is not on the Brocade switch however in case it turns out to be that, I would start with this document especially about configuring and loading MIBs.

Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hi All!
I´m very new to Cacti and found this topic about Brocade. My boss asked to me to find a solution in order to:
- Monitor and report weekly the ISL usage
As I´m not a Linux expert and never played with this kind of monitoring tool (exept of BNA and SAN Health), I have tryed to get out of the tunnel installing a Cacti VM Ware Appliance, but at the end I lost the fight
What I´m trying to say, it would be very apreciated if someone could provide a VM Ware Appliance (may be with Suse Linux) with the latest Cacti and all the Brocade Templates installed. I will pay in beers
Also, I´m curious to know if it would possible to use the BNA to collect switches ISL data, instead of polling direct the switches.
Someone could help out?
Cheers from Hannover (Germany)

Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hi relaxi,
BNA (Brocade Network Advisor) can definately be used to gather ISL data. Look at the list under "SAN performance measures" on the following link:
http://www.brocade.com/downloads/docume ... .31.2.html
The ones which say E_Ports are ISLs. Also, the ones for FC ports may apply as well.
Sorry but I'm not sure about the other bits.

Hi Martin,
ok, I forgott to specify my request. My question was if we can use Cacti to access the BNA Server and gather the ISL data via SNMP from him instead from direct the switches.
Anyway, any chance to get a turnkey VM Ware Cacti Appliance with Suse from someone?

Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hi,
I have the same issue as willert. We are using 100´s of IBM HS Blade Centers and would like to monitor some ports of the embedded switch (4020 and 5470). Does anyone modify the template in order to monitor Access Gateways also?
Other curious question: Someone did some experiments with Zabbix and Brocade?

cacti 0.8.8atoe_cutter wrote:Yes, you are right in your assumption that the measurement is in bytes (elcody02 is using a CDEF for it) but forgot to update the Y-axis and legend.smaug098 wrote:Are these measurements in bytes and the Y axis legend hasn't been updated?
Data-, graphtemplates and data query is included in my previous template.ledub wrote:could you put the entire template ? host , graph and data ?
But i forgot to include the fan/temp templates. And thus i created a dataquery for them aswell (they where indexable and didnt need to spam data templates).
So here is an exported Host template (with dependencies) which contains a fixed version of elcody02's templates and a fan/temp-sensors template. Also included are the data_query xml's used.
Exported from 0.8.7d, all patches applied.
Remember that dependencies include any custom RRA/CDEF from my Cacti-system. Please have a look at your own and back them up. In fact, take a whole backup for the sake of it, you never know...
Edit:
Apparently the CDEF i use in the graph template (LAST) isnt included in the dependencies, so if you want to use LAST you have to go to Console->Data Sources->RRAs and add LAST to the selection for all of the RRAs.
If you want to use AVERAGE instead, please change the graph template, LAST -> AVERAGE.
Read more about CDEFs here - http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:8_rrdt ... solidation
I'm confused about the graph based on words in/out of the fc interface.
There is a clear correlation between the fc cells (swFCPortRxFrames) and the bytes on the interface (from ifHCInOctets in the standard IF mib):
But the words (swFCPortRxWords converted to bytes in the CDEF) in on the same interface graph shape looks very different and the traffic volume values are also very different:
I would have thought that the bytes graph and words graph should look identical but they don't. Why is that?
Thanks!

Sorry about this but I'm not really sure but I suspect it has to with the fact that each FC frame has a variable size payload of "up to 2048" bytes but each word is a fixed 4 bytes.tla2k12 wrote:I would have thought that the bytes graph and words graph should look identical but they don't. Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hello all!
Great thread guys! Thanks for sharing.
I'm having a bit of trouble creating a Data and Graphing template for the optic levels of an interface on a Brocade MLX-e. It's a 100G interface.
snmpwalk -v2c -cmycommunity device.lax.domain.net .1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.3.6.1.3.129
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.1991.1.1.3.3.6.1.3.129 = STRING: "-009.5467 dBm: Normal"
My graphs come out as "nan." I think it might be because this is a string. How on earth do I convert this into an Integer/Decimal?!
I will owe you all many beers for some assistance! Thanks.

Re: Brocade Fibre Channel templates.
Hello,
Thanks for this. Where is the final version of this template posted? I installed the one from the first post in this thread and I am getting all the NaN and other issues discussed. If I back out and reinstall I want to get the final version installed. Thanks.
