How to work out which cacti system is right or wrong?

Hello,

Two systems have been set-up at work, one a year ago and the other more recent. However there is a server which is displayed as port 21 on the switch and on the other system as port 39. Show totally different results with their graphs. How can I get to the bottom of this to discover which one is correct. Tried tracing cables but that is pretty much impossible . Any suggestions would be very welcomed!

Are they a managed switch? If so, look at the MAC address table on each port and compare it to the MAC address on the server. You can even take the MAC address from the server and find what port it is on. Until you know where the server is on the switch, you can't trust either data.

And then once you understand where the server really is: Cacti only picks up the names/descriptions of ports when you tell it to, so the names on graphs won't change automatically. Probably the server has moved between ports and someone updated the switch descriptions. So, go to the device in Cacti, and click the green circle next to Interface Traffic to re-read the interface descriptions etc. Then go to graph management, select all the traffic graphs for that device and choose 'Re-apply suggested names' to have it update the graph titles.
