New ConfigStore

Post by chadd »

Here are some screenshots of the new ConfigStore for anyone that might be interested. I am trying to clean up the remaining bugs (that I know about) and get documentation done before posting it to the forum (and possibly to the Cacti plugin repo). It will not be an upgrade to the existing ConfigStore. This is an entirely different thing. The intention of this plugin was to create a CMDB that would connect everything, for easy access and reference. This version of ConfigStore provides an API by which most things should be done. That way, your able to tag things to other things, auto add/update/delete data from Cacti and MacTrack, etc. If you add your item to inventory, and it is manageable, you can subscribe to backups, host data, sync to Cacti and MacTrack right from the inventory item edit page. One page data entry, and your done. If you also run the Autom8 plugin, your graphs get created as well (great plugin Autom8).

You have the ability to add your own "Modules" to ConfigStore as well. You can enable/disable them, just like you do Cacti plugins (but from the Module Manager). For example, my next module was going to be (may still be) Document Manager. The idea being that you could tag a document to anything. For example: a floor plan to a floor, a manual to an inventory type, etc.

My grandiose thought would be that Cacti would incorporate this type of approach into the entire project. Maybe expand upon the plugin framework to include some of the ideas presented in this plugin. There of course would be tradeoffs, but I think in the end, Cacti would benefit from such an approach.

I hope to get this code to the Cacti community soon, but I am starting a new job soon and don't know how much time I will have to devote to this project. If there is anyone that would like to lend a hand, please let me know.

Hello and sorry for the late response. I have not touched this since I left my last employeer, but if anyone is interested I can post the code and they can continue the work. I just do not have time right now, with my current employeer/projects.

Please post the source. I don't know how much time I have in the future but if this only works for 50% I would be interested to get it working.
