I think I'll try CentOS 6.4 with the 0.8.7g version. That way when I'm through I can run through an upgrade here in my "lab" environment.
I see some other posts in the forums where people are having trouble with graphs and 0.8.8a, so perhaps I'll hold back on the cutting edge for a bit.

And just as an endorsement of your book, everything seems to be moving right along using your other posts as well as the version of Cacti you wrote the book for (0.8.7g). I highly recommend it and it's proven well worth the money! Thanks again.
