Back To Basics

Post by ChaosSystems »

Hi All

I have installed Smokeping 2.6.9 (which works fine) on the same server (RedHat 6.0) as my Cacti Instance (0.8.7e), PIA (2.5) and downloaded and installed 1.12 of nmidSmokeping from the official Cacti plugins page.

Here are my issues:

1) When I select a device and select Add to Smokeping (x.x.x.x) it generates the smokeping_nmid_spserver1_config.txt file with just a list of the Graph tree structure you see when you click the 'graphs' tab. No host information is stored in this file. Therefore no graphs are created in Smokeping (once Smokeping has been restarted with the appended smokeping_nmid_spserver1_config.txt contents to the config file).

2) Checking the host table, the only two fields being updated are nwmgmt_settings and nwmgmt_smokeping_server.

3) No graph link appears within Cacti.

Reading the forum, there doesn't seem to be any definitive installation instructions as many 'sane' people are experiencing issues 1 to 3 with the latest and previous releases.

Please can someone shed some light on these issues.

Thank you in anticipation

Hi All

I've sorted issues one and two.

** Important Note **. In your graph tree you MUST have a tree item of type Host for each host:

Parent Item : [root]
Tree Item Type : Host

Tree Item Value
Host : some.doamin.com
Graph Grouping Style : Graph Template

Just need to sort out issue three now !!! Can't see Graph Template: Smokeping [External] at the bottom of the host graphs.

Regards

Richard

Cacti 0.8.7e is pretty old and the PIS 2.5 doesn't include the necessary code required for this feature (number 3) to show.

Please try using the attached html_tree.php file and make a copy of the original one. Then re-check
