The iDirect SNMP proxy agent bridges iDirect’s NMS into SNMP-based management systems. The proxy monitors all components of the iDirect network (remotes, protocol processors, Hubs).

Basically all data are stored in the mysql database and the proxy agent is relaying it. I'm actually graphing IP throughput statistics in cacti from the ipstatsentry table. As an example you can find the .xml file attached that you can take as an example.

You'll have to follow the step explained here:

http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:3a_adv ... alkthrough

Dear Yann
I used the ipstat table you attached and i created the data query as the topic posted in the walkthrough
also i added the data query in the idirect nms device in cacti.
however when i activate the script i am getting success with 0 items ,0 rows !!
+ Running data query [10].
+ Found type = '4 '[script query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/ipstatsEntryTable.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.

Can you please assist me since i am debian and linux newbie.

I already run snmpwalk pointing to the NMS to get the OID.
#snmpwalk -c public -v 1 -On x.x.x.x IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB::ipstatsTable

Basically what I want to monitor is bandwidth (tx/rx). I have Cacti 0.8.7i running and I have downloaded the files that thuo posted and import into Cacti.
My questions is what's the next steps to follow to create each vsat remote sites on Cacti? To not have many posts and help all community if possible why you don't create any step by step article?

Thanks,
Pablo
Dear Pablo

i am running the snmpwalk command pointing to the nms as you put it,it is giving the following error:
MIB search path: /root/.snmp/mibs:/usr/share/mibs/site:/usr/share/snmp/mibs:/usr/share/mibs/iana:/usr/share/mibs/ietf:/usr/share/mibs/netsnmp
Cannot find module (IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB): At line 0 in (none)
IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB::ipstatsTable: Unknown Object Identifier

Am i missing something?

Thx in advance

Its hard to extract those idirect mib file and interpret them, so i made work easier for you...

With this you will not struggle much - if you know how to.

Place it in the resources/snmp_queries folder and call it using data query. Better still extract and create a separate .xml file for each of the queries you may intend to make.

EG , temp, snr, rx, tx , power, etc etc.

Thuo Wilson.
Hi Thuo
regarding the IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB.xml that you attached,
1- where should i place it (in the cacti server or Idirect NMS server?)
2- Does this file include everything , means no need to perform the steps that gandalf made in his walkthrough ?
3- when i try to snmpwalk the idirect NMS server ipstatstable it gives me unable to find the MIB.
Thx in advance for ur help

Hi Gandalf

I followed your manual regarding the data query.

can you help me plz, i am newbie in cacti and linux.
also i am not able to snmpwalk the Idirect remote MIB database.
Knowing that when i added the device, i could plot the regular graphs like interface traffic and user logged ...

Hi Morya

I have the same task to do at my work.
I created the xml data query file for the ipstatentry table, data template (rxtcp and txtcp),graph template.
I can see value on the graph but they are not reflecting the real value when i compare to Imonitor value.
Currently i am planning to print all values per protocol and graphing the sum as you are doing.
In the graph template items, shall i use any formula in order to print and graph correct values ?
can you provide me your graph template plz ?
another question: when we say txtcp this means TX of the remote or the opposite ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Thank you Gandalf.

I have another question, i was able to create the graphs i need for all the remotes in the network.
I created trees for each client and sent the graphs to the appropriate trees.
My question is that i need now to create a user account for each client in order he sees only his specified graphs.
When i configure in graph permission that the user is allowed to view this tree only, i am forced to add each graph manually one by one.
It is exhausting since for each client i have more than 200 hundreds graphs.
Is there a way that when i allow the user to view a specific tree, he will see directly all the graphs inside that tree?
Please advise

I was assuming that editing the tree permissions should be enough - else it would be pointless from my point of view. This is NOT the case, then???

Hi Reinhard

I found the solution for this.

in the user graph permission tab you configure the following:

in tree permissions you add the specified tree with default policy deny
AND then in graph permission (by device) you add the specific device with default policy deny
:)

Vielen dank fur ihr Hilfe!

Please see the follow image.
As you can see the cacti shows the: serie modem - tx power - rx power - c/n down - c/n up - warnings

If anyone can help me up a server with these features please contact me.

Hi ,
I had been away from cacti forum for some while now. Sorry for late reply...

The IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB.xml is (rather i) extracted file into xml for easier reading and reference. You will not find the file under idirect platform but rather you have to transform it into .xml - thats why i uploaded in that form. Snmp will also be able to interpret it(idirect file) in raw form(?) like you did above {snmpwalk -c public -v 1 -On x.x.x.x IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB::ipstatsTable}

You don't poll from remote, you poll from the nms server.
=====================================================
One way to get graphs is following below;;;;

In short:

/. Ensure your NMS snmp server is running and firewall open (incase you have one).
/. Download all the files from my dropbox folder here http://bit.ly/1lIHkAT
/. Extract all files.
/. Import (console, Import Templates ), data_query, host template, data template and graph template using cacti. Import all of them.
/. Place the snmp_queries folder{after extracting} content under <path_cacti>/resource/snmp_queries/
/. Go to console, host templates {under IDIRECT, add any other item you may want to graph}
/. Add cacti device {MNS server}, use host template "IDIRECT" to add data queries and custom graph templates.

If you find no graphs plotting use SNMPv2

Thats all. You will have working traffic_graphs, snr, tx_, scpc errors, line_card graphs()

Thanks, you made me upload this finally. My Skype is wthusi incase you need further assistance. Send me email first to accept it.

NB:/ You can plot anything using the OID from the IDIRECT-REMOTE-MIB.xml file. Create data-template, graph templates and you are home and dry!

Kind Regards,
Thuo Wilson.
