automatically set thresholds on a value...

I am using Cacti to monitor data flow from 120 locations. Wondering what the best way is to automate setting up max thresholds for any new location that's set up; in Cacti? in MySQL using a trigger? UNIX shell script? Then, also interested in updating those thresholds automatically. Can I do this within Cacti? Or MySQL? Or UNIX shell script? Thanks!
