GMail and Cacti

Post by kelbyc »

I have moved my email hosting to gmail and we are using SSL for our SMTP. Is it possible to get cacti to send email alerts using this method? I changed the port and the smtp server and the authentication information in the cacti settings but it fails to connect to the server.

Depending on your environment this might be possible. I have a PHP-Nuke site up on a Linux server that uses GMail to send out it's messages. I had to do a lot of monkeying with the sendmail configuration but I finally got it to work. I'll check to see if I'm using SSL SMTP though. I'm pretty sure I had to do some stuff with TLS so I would expect that I'm using secure SMTP, but I set this up so long ago it's hard to remember.

What OS is your server using? If it's Linux I'll try and piece together what I did on my box and maybe it might work for you.

Just a suggestion. I can't verify.

In "Settings -> Mail / DNS":

- Mail Services = SMTP
- SMTP Hostname = ssl://your.mail.server
- SMTP Port = 465

Then make sure whether SSL is available in your PHP.
