How to graph .rrd file that is generated by a 1wire script

Post by ttyR2 »

One of the network analysts here set up a couple of temperature sensors using 1wire technology. They are being monitored by the serial interface on a couple of Dell servers. The script polls them, and spits out an .rrd file that is dropped into the /cacti/rra folder. Having never used Cacti for anything besides monitoring snmp devices, I'm looking for steps on how to proceed. I created a datasource, but when I go to create a new Graph, it only shows hosts (devices) and not the datasource I'm trying to graph. Can someone give me a brief rundown on the order in which I need to configure this?

Thanks!

No ideas? The .rrd file is being created. I just need to know how to have a graph generated off of it. I can create a data source and point it at the file, but can't figure out how to generate the graph.

You need to have a graph template thats associated with objects in the Data Templates.

Actually, I'm not sure if one can get Cacti to graph a rrd file that itself is not polling.

I try to do the same thing.
Make a graph with an rrd file which already exists.
Have you find a solution or is it really impossible???

You can...

You just have to disable that particular host from being polled.

But you will have to update the rrd externally.

So, the Nagios plugin checks the rrd and nagios alerts on that plugins response?

And you need cacti to update the RRD?

Or

Is Nagios updating the rrd's and you want cacti to show the graphs based on them? If so, you need to make sure that either the nagios plugin saves the values in the correct RRD data templates or that cacti knows what data templates to graph from the RRD.
