A couple of routes to take on this one -

You can download the GNU/Cygwin apps which give you most of the Unix commands you need in Windows.- The drawback is the syntax doesn't translate 100% in every case, so you'll have to tweak regardless.

What I'm doing (as a windows 2000 user) is utilizing the relatively vast variety of pre written scripts that are available with MRTG.

I've been using the MRTG Ping-Probe script available at ftp://ftp.pwo.de/pub/pwo/mrtg/mrtg-ping ... gp-202.zip

It also works on Unix/Linux, BTW.

You'll need to have Perl installed for most of the MRTG add-ons. Also, check out

Many good sources and scripts, plus a tutorial of the Ping Script I mentioned above.

Also, check out the supafly free LogMonitor util at http://www.bitrix.ru/logmon/eng/. This will let you run any executable/batch file/script, etc at any given frequency - a useful app for us Windows peeps.

Also, I'm sure many of the commands used my basic scripts have win32-eqivilants. If anyone would be willing to write such scripts; that would be an excellent addition for users on the win32 platform.

Rax - I'll soon be posting a set of tools which I found that might help out the win32 user in this regard. Basically, they're just a bunch of commandline apps and some data munging bits which will allow the results to be stored in RRD files. It'll take a day to put it together, but I'll post the info here as soon as I'm done.
