Hi everyone,
This is my first post here. I am also new to the world of cacti so please bear with me.
In my network, I have allocated different bandwidths to different users. I am getting the bandwidth usage graph for each user. I want to know how I can use thold to notify me of users that are utilising their full amount of allocated bandwidth over a long period of time, say more than 5hrs.
Basically I want to find out the small standard deviation of the bandwidth usage graphs for a period of 5hrs and get notifications on who these users are.
Please let me know if there are any easier methods to do this.
Thanks in advance,
Mudmud
Use thold to get small standard deviation notifications

Re: Use thold to get small standard deviation notifications
If you are graphing it, you can usually alert on it without too many issues. For bandwidth the important thing to remember is that the normalized data shown in the graph is not exactly what you would put into the threshold value. Also, if you are using "Average" as the RRA, then the number may not be exact. Thold gets it data directly from the poller, the graph will show data that has been averaged over the last 2 pollings.
I also recommend that once you figure out the correct formula, you create a CDEF, so then you can enter it as 10 (for 10 Megs) instead of 83886080.

hi cigamit,
thanks for your reply. I noticed the baseline feature in thold. Currently I'm searching for any documentation on how to use it. If you have any guidelines on how I can use it. I would really appreciate it.
I am experiencing another problem which is not related to this post, if you could please give me some advice on why I am getting the following error when trying to use the weathermap :
CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: SQL Assoc Failed!, Error:'1146', SQL:"select weathermap_maps.*, weathermap_groups.name as groupname from weathermap_maps, weathermap_groups where weathermap_maps.group_id=weathermap_groups.id order by weathermap_groups.sortorder,sortorder"
thanks again.
