This is my first foray into snmp and cacti. I have a server running ubuntu desktop that is a virtual server. I have a couple virtual machines running ubuntu server. I have cacti up and am getting graphs on the web server, but I am getting nothing from my file server except one disk space graph that I think may be wrong as the graphs on both servers are exactly the same for both servers.
When I go to new graphs, there are no listings under Data Query [SNMP - Interface Statisticss] or [udc/net -Get Monitored Partitions] and for both servers I get two devices listed for both and they are the same (like they are getting the info of the virtual host rather than the virtual server).
I think I am missing something in setting up snmpd on the servers that I am trying to monitor.
I also have several of the standard graphs for the file server but they are all blank, the same graphs on the web server (the one running cacti) have data.
I think I may be missing something basic, but can't figure out what it is.

Re: Need help with basics
I have been all through that. I think what I am missing is settings on the agent. I have not used snmp before and I think I may be missing some of the basics. For one, how do I make sure that my agent is sending the right information? or maybe I should be asking how to make sure cacti is asking for the information. I am trying to get bandwidth but also none of my graphs are populated.

When I use this command:
snmpwalk -v 1 -c community localhost
I get this:

Re: Need help with basics
I suppose that snmpd.conf has not been set up correctly. We do have some hints for that, but e.g. net-snmp.org is a better source for informations like that
