How to not average down peaks in week, month & year grap

Post by Justin »

Is there any way to keep peaks of network traffic, or any data for that matter within cacti/rrdtool? All my peaks keep getting averaged down so that I loose what the true peak was over more than a day.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

When you say network traffic, your referring to using snmp monitoring of a remote device(router/switch/firewall), or your talking about local NIC traffic?

Yes, SNMP monitoring, or monitoring of any set of data. Cacti/rrdtool will average out the peaks even with a "Max" rra. I am wondering how to get the same behavoir as in MRTG using the "with-peak" option. This will maintain the absolute highs and lows over long periods of time as opposed to averaging them down.

I've been trying to do the same thing with no luck.
I have tried changing the Steps and Rows in "Round Robin Archives"
and recreating the graphs but this didn't work either.

The with-peak option in MRTG is exactly what I am looking for in Cacti.
Otherwise, an excellent program.
