Brand Spanking New User

I have Cacti on my network and it was put there way before I started. Sorry for the stupid questions. How do I add a device. Now I have added a device however, it always says status is unknown. Any ideas on how to fix this. I have version 0.8.7b. Am I am using it via web browsing.

can you snmp walk the host from the cacti system?

* 0.8.7b is old version
* Configure SNMP service to host you want to add. You can easily find a tutorial to internet
* Add the device to cacti by using the appropriate host template (or generic snmp enabled device)
