No consolidation, averaging Data and Graphs

Post by morgentau »

Now that i could manage to clear the issue with my broken environmental data from the EthernetBox another question appears...

How can i graph the temperature and humidity data without any consolidation nor averaging over time? i want to see the absolute collected values on all graphs from 1h to 3 years... is this possible and how can i do this?

By the way, the graphs look like this now... later i would like to have them all on one graph with different colors... and create exportable templates.

Hi,

That's actually defined by the "RRAs" ( Console -> "Management" -> Data Sources ).

This one may help:

Hello,

thank you for the link... yeah well, i think i understand (in a way...in parts... somehow) :o how it works after reading the documentation... this would be for creating completely new sets if i understand this page correctly.

To be realistic, i do not understand it fully... it is a bit to many steps...

But then, i also do not understand this function in the graph template... the consolidation function and GPRINT functions... do they interact with each other or not at all...

would i achieve the same result when i just copy the graph template and set it from "average" to "max"? Why, when i set it to "last" do the graphs disappear only to appear again after i set it back to another consolidation function?

In the past few days i played around with the default OID template, made copies of the graph, host, data templates and so on but i could not make them work properly... not yet.

The consolidation, gprint, min, max stuff all revolves around RRDTOOL, which is what stores the data and renders the graphs. The rrdtool manual pages are a good place to turn to get an in-depth understanding. While technically you dont have to create new rrd files (can use the rrdtool tune command), it's a better idea unless you know what you're doing.

This guys website (for some reason down atm), also has some good explainations on rrdtool.
* Rates, normalizing and consolidating
* Minimum, Average, Maximum

I do realise that this will take a lot of reading... but i would like to take a practical approach es well. So if want to play around with a copy of the generic oid snmp template, what do i have to copy to protect the original?

One example happend just now when i created a copy of some of the generic oid snmp template to use my new RRA datasets... while doing this, the color on all the original graphs was set to the one color i wanted to use for my copy. I could not find a way to get back to the colors i set when i created the new graph with the generic oid template.

I used the color blue for humidity and red for temperature... now they are all dark blue, all 9 of them...

thank you for the links... i think it explains very well what happens inside the RRD's... but it certainly needs rereading

confusion sets in... :o
