[solved] Merge data from old RRD to new RRD files

Post by thechancer »

Operating System: Win2k3
Webserver:Apache
Cacti: 0.8.8a
MySQL: 5.0.51a
PHP: 5.2.1.7
RRDTool (Cygwin or Win32 build): RRDTool 1.2.x
Net-SNMP: NET-SNMP version: 5.6.1.1

i have had a case where my graphing has failed (this did happen at the same time as a server BSOD... ) and continued to fail with rrdtool pegging the server at 100% CPU. I since updated to 0.8.8a, made new RRD's and the graphing has started again, and all is good.... but....

I am interested in keeping the historical data - if I drop in the old rrd's I can see the historical data, but no graphing takes place on certain rrd's - so to keep the monitoring current I have to use the new rrd files for all. Is there a way of getting the data from the old files and merging it with new ones ?

Any help or pointers would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Ran a chkdsk /f to make sure the file system is problem free?

There really isn't an easy way to merge rrd file data. If the rrd file structure and settings are the same, you could export the data to xml (rrdtool export command), manually merge the data and then rrdtool import. RRD Editor might be able some help too.

I've ran perfmon monitoring and I have a faulty driver with memory leakage... disks are all OK. Drivers replaced and hopefully it'll be good now 8)

I'll give the manual merge a try,

Thanks for the help,

I've tried the rrdtool dump command and it seems to be truncated - so it seems like the ones I want are definitely broken... (maybe I should have setup backups of the rrd's... )

Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and lose the previous data.. It is only a personal server so no major issues.

Thanks for you help,
