Q: When storage index num is a moving target...?

Post by ddrobert »

I've got 3 IBM Bladecenters full of HS20 type server blades running mostly Windows 2000. Unfortunately, when the removable storage is moved from one server to another, the indexes on all storage devices is reenumerated. When Cacti comes along to poll for disk usage, the index numbers no longer match up, and data isn't associated with the correct graphs anymore. Is there any way to avoid this? I saw an option to index by name instead of index number, but it didn't seem to help. I am using ss_host_disk.php to grab the data.

For those unfamiliar with the hardware configuration, each of the blades (up to 14 of them) in the Bladecenter shares a common floppy and cdrom drive in the Bladecenter.. the interface for the storage devices is USB, and is attached to one blade at a time by pressing a selector button on the front of the desired blade.

Thanks!
