Autom8 Question

Post by wavecrest »

I've gotten autom8 up and running and seems to work fine if i run it against a host that is already Up, (i.e. it has at least one graph created and is pingable). My question is; how do I get autom8 to build graphs for new hosts? If I add some hosts via the discovery plugin, they start in unknown status and when I try to apply the autom8 rule, i get a http 500 error, once the host is Up (has a graph) autom8 works fine. I just dont want to add a single graph for each host before I run autom8.

Running latest version of cacti (via apt-get)/PIA/autom8/discovery, new install on Ubuntu 11.10

Thanks

I tried to implement some "interaction" between discovery and autom8. Goal was, to avoid duplicate graph creation, so I deactivate discovery graph creation in case autom8 is present.
Please describe: when "creating host via discovery", do you use the "manual procedure" or the "automatic procedure" provided by "discovery"? And please note the exact version numbers from "Plugin Management"

I was using findhosts.php
From the cli to discover the hosts. So I guess that's the manual procedure. I'll check the version when I get back into the office on Monday.

I expected to have "findhost.php" modified as well. Please verify and provide hints where possible. Then I will dive into it. In case this problem "materializes" again, a bug report would help tracking that.

Please uncheck graph creation. This should be done by AUTOM8. Tell us about your results.

After unchecking that, I'm back at the same place I was, Devices get discovered, but are in an Unknown state, no graphs have been created. I let discover find the devices on its own, no cli.

So what you need is
- make DISCOVER find new devices
- in case a new device is found, create that device as a new cacti host
- make AUTOM8 catch that new host, create graphs and tree(s) for it
correct?
