DO NOT USE THE CVS VERSIONS IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT
The current MAIN branch in Cacti and Cactid are under extreme development. Changes are being made daily as we are developing the next version of Cacti.
If you like to experiment, please feel free to download it and check out the changes. But be fully aware that it is currently in an ALPHA state.
Some of the features currently being developed for the next release are:
New Authentication system - Web Basic and expanded LDAP support
Multiple Pollers - support with expandability to multiple polling hosts
Themes - ability to change the look of cacti, per user
New Templates - new way of cacti handling templates and graphs, trust me it's good
Documentation - new improved documentation with walk troughs and examples
And a lot more!
Currently we do not have a release date, but we are working on it as hard as we can.

Got a question though.......
You guys have been working really hard to make a great tool even better. What is the future of Cacti? Will it go the course of Big Brother in which there will be two versions - a "for sale" & a community version? Big Brother has what they call "better than free" version which suits my needs just fine. Perhaps Cacti will follow suit?
If I were a network software company looking to buy rights on a hot product, I would look no further than Cacti. It blows the doors off anything else in its category

At the current moment, we are looking at Beta testing this summer. We are making major changes to templating and polling systems. Not to mention the major changes to the authenication system that has already been put into place.
All dates are subject to change. Sorry, all us developers work on this in our free time.
If you would like to be included in the beta testing, please email me and I will get you added to the list.
Thanks,

Will there be any forms of enhanced security for cacti? I would really like to see options to restrict access to hosts that are not in the tree that I've specified. With the current security and restrictions, I would like users to be able to edit hosts ONLY that appear in the tree I have given them access too, but that currently is not possible.
If, and only if, I get around to it, it will most likely not be based off of trees, but off of the host deny allow section.

Multiple Pollers - support with expandability to multiple polling hosts
Can you please elaborate on this....
If I install a poller on post site, will it have its own database? or will it still get its config details from the central database. Basically, if network connectivity between the post site and core site is un-available for some time, will the poller continue to poll the local network at post?
Where is the cvs version I can try to play with? I was unable to find it in the SVN repository.
Interesting comment. I do like the idea of keeping a local copy of the database and using the store and forward paradigm. However, that was not currently part of the design.
