Didn't have much trouble, other than not realizing it had the PA integrated. (I tried to install 3.0 and ran into a number of problems) I reinstalled the 0.8.7i package again and everything started working properly again.
One thing I did notice, my userid is an fully privileged administrator, and there appear to be many fewer options along the side of my screen and along the top. I'm not tremendously deep into Cacti, but I do notice things like that. I looked at my permissions and noted the plugin permission checks gone but that seemed consistent with the PA now being included with the main software release.
Is this lack of tabs and links on the side just a change in 8.7i? or do I still have problems? I'll try to include what I'm seeing.

Sorry for inlining a big attachment like this.

Re: Just installed 0.8.7i
I figured out part of the problem. I followed some instructions previous to 0.8.7i and downloaded the version without the included PIA 3.1 files. I downloaded the one with the PIA 3.1 files this morning, re-did the upgrade procedure, and now have under the Configuration left side menu a Plugin Management entry with about 6 plugins in the list.
I will assume the row of tabs across the top are no longer necessary in 0.8.7i. Unless someone tells me otherwise.

Re: Just installed 0.8.7i
We have some issues with SQL tables of PIA under some circumstances.
In case you've managed to get those tables installed, it's then only a matter of providing the required permissions witin "User Management".
We hopefully will solve that with next release
