Searching for a way to limit polling by duration(days)

Post by dustspots »

I am searching for a way to limit cacti polling for X days using a dropdown in the "add" screen. (console, devices, add) I've searched google, and various Cacti related forums, but it seems this is an unusual request.

I'm using Cacti to temporarily monitor customer devices that exhibit some anomaly, but only need to watch the device for a fixed time when the device will exhibit a fault. (ie 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, etc.) I'd like to retain the data, but set the device polling as disabled after the time duration has been met.

has anyone tried this? Suggestions?

Not known. But you may achive such a functionality by implementing a plugin, that disables a host after a specific amount of time

Gandalf,

Thanks for the update. I'll go hunting for a plugin that may give me a template for what i'm seeking.

From those plugins, that have been published, I'm quite sure that no one matches your request. So I was talking on creating such a plugin on you own. It's not too much magic behind that
