Maximum number of data sources

Post by Stayerx »

Hello everyone,
my question is very simple - how many Data Sources can cacti put in one rrd file?
I created a Data Input Method which contains 441 output fields but cacti seems not to be able to process such a huge rrd.
I see many chopped ds strings in the log file:
(the last item '2017_cic_o' is cut off in all strings)

441 is quite insane. I don't want to argue, whether this is a valid approach ...
Personally, I find this quite inflexible, as you can't add or remove data sources from existing rrd files.

It may happen, that we have specific field length limitations; this depends on the cacti version used.

And the operating system will have some limitations; nowadays those shouldn't be an issue.
Then, rrdtool itself may have limitations, but I'm not aware of those; it may help to ask on the rrdtool mailing list.
