Cacti + SNMP Informant to monitor WinXP "servers"
Cacti has been working great monitoring network devices including nic throughput on WinXP machines. I'm looking to monitor cpu utilization as well. I installed snmp informant but there is NO information on how to actually use it. If it's up and running, should it kick out info when cacti queries it as a "Host MIB - CPU Utilization"?
Re: Cacti + SNMP Informant to monitor WinXP "servers&qu
No. As the name states cacti queries the "Host MIB" (as defined by RFC1514) whereas snmp informant provides it's own branch in the snmp tree (1.3.6.1.4.1.9600.1.1).ttyR2 wrote:I installed snmp informant but there is NO information on how to actually use it. If you want to graph the snmp informat OIDs you have to create your own data queries or have a look at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=4099

Use a SNMP Browser (I use GETIF from http://www.wtcs.org/snmp4tpc/getif.htm) or snmpwalk to check if the Host MIB OIDs (.1.3.6.1.2.1.25 branch) are populated by Windows. If not check if the SNMP Service (Tab Agent) is configured correctly.

Attached you will find my screenshots after creating a device with the "Windows 2000/XP Host" host template.
On picture cacti_02 you can see the information that is returned by SNMP. If there is a message like "snmp error" you have problems with the snmp configuration of your Windows client (see previous post) or with the snmp settings in cacti for this host (community string ..).
The associated data queries return values for disks, processors and interfaces (see column "Status" - Success [30 Items]). IF you want to see the returned values click on "Verbose query".
To reload the results click on the green circle.
If you are still having problems - please post a screenshot.
