[WITHDRAWN] - Cacti on you BlackBerry - BBCacti

Post by phalek »

As with the .NET Client and the Windows Phone version, the BlackBerry version is using a special version of the nmidWebService plugin to interact with the Cacti Server.

"BB Cacti" (nmidMobileClient for Blackberry) enables network administrators to view graphs on demand without the need to login to the Cacti system.

Multiple Cacti Server Support
It offers support for multiple cacti servers installations.
BB Cacti uses the SOAP WebService technology for retrieving data from the Cacti server. This additional layer between the Cacti Server and the BB Cacti client removes the need for updating the BB Cacti client whenever the Cacti server has been updated.

Thold Support
BB Cacti also supports additonal Cacti plugins like Thold.
Threshold breaches and the Cacti graph displaying the breach can be displayed on the BB Cacti client.

Down Hosts Support
The Blackberry client does show the current down hosts

nmidCreatePDF Support
Graphs can be added to nmidCreatePDF reports using this Blackberry client.

Cacti Tree View Support
BB Cacti supports the full Cacti Tree. All trees and sub leafs can be selected and displayed.

System Requirements
- Blackberry OS 4.5 or greater
- nmidWebService 1.0 ( Download here )
- Access to a cacti installation from within your Blackberry

Update: A test with an early development version using the MDS/BES connectivity was successfull. The Blackberry was able to connect to an internal Cacti System via a BES internal Server.

Hi mcutting,

Do you like to see any special feature in there ?

Right now I only concentrate on displaying a graph, but with using the webservice this is not limited to it. Basically everything that's stored somewhere in the DB can be displyed ( e.g. Thold breaches .... )

Hi Phalek,

A cut-down interface would be good. Graphs, Tholds, Monitor (or a list of currently down hosts etc)

Ok, I'll see what can be implemented. As I do not have Thold nor Monitor running I may kindly ask you for some live testing once I have implemented those in the BB client ....

Basic Graph View functionality is implemented. If anyone likes to have a version to play with, please send me your BB PIN with a short description of why you want to have a BB Cacti client.

Also, a special version of the nmidWebService Plugin is required only available to the BB Cacti client testers.

Release 1.0 is now available.

Please look at the BBCacti Product page for more information.

You will need the WSO2 WebServices Framework for PHP to be installed on your Windows/*NIX box.

The required nmdiWebService v0.9 can be downloaded from the BBCacti product page.

Update: The Cacti integrated user auth ( not LDAP ) has been implemented.

Still Missing:
  • LDAP Auth
  • Graph Permissions ( retrieve only the tree items the user is allowed to view )

Re: Cacti on you BlackBerry - BBCacti ( update )

Post by phalek »

I've updated the web-service part to be more easily installed. It can now be installed via the usual plugin interface so no additional compile or modules are needed.

Also the price of the client has been reduced ... look here for more information: http://www.network-outsourcing.de/http: ... cacti.html
