Re: Occasional Gap in Graph - MySQL related?

Yea, I bet its the poller running long which is the source of your gaps.

Looking in the poller/script cache, ALL of them are SNMP except for "windows monitoring" -- what is that one doing? Does it have any built in timeout logic?

Where should I be looking, in the mysql db or a folder?

I have poller statistics and advanced ping v1.3. That's all I can think of that's not snmp. I am also monitoring the localhost, which is a windows 2k3 server, just CPU, disk space, etc. But for troubleshooting I have completely disabled the localhost so it wouldn't use any of those scripts and still have the gaps.

I thought about testing another task scheduler. I'm not sure where to go from here but I'll keep digging... Thanks.

Look in the poller cache and filter on the action which is not SNMP. Since cacti wont log which scripts are taking forever, the only method I know how to capture this info is
1) sit and watch the server (if it happens a frequently). this entails using process explorer to watch what each cacti related process is running after the poller is suppose to have terminated.
2) log with sysinternals process monitor with filters configured for only cacti related processes/files. painful to sift through afterwords.

Good idea... I identified all non snmp scripts and deleted the graphs and data sources (they're not that important).

If it's not gapping, I'll add the graphs back slowly and see what happens, after more than 3 days lol.

If it is gapping I'll follow the rest of your suggestions. Thanks again...

Still gapping after removing all non-snmp related polls. And it's getting worse, really irritating lol...

Why isn't your poller running exactly every 60 seconds? Run times of 100+ seconds is likely a symptom to your gap problem...

I'm not real sure, but poller statistics show it's running about 13 seconds. I thought about trying a different scheduler for troubleshooting to see if it's any different. Think that may help?

Looking at the windows task scheduler log, it is faithfully starting every 1 minute? If so, then possibly something else going on with how cacti is detecting the poller run time gaps.

Cacti's Poller Interval and Cron Interval are set to what?
The windows scheduled task is set to what interval?

It's win2k3, task scheduler (not 2.0) so I don't think it has a log. But when I'm watching it, it doesn't seem to start right on the minute.

I am trying KA Firetask to test something other than windows task scheduler and so far so good as the continuous out of sync messages are gone. I'll let it run for several days and see if there are any gaps.

If a different task scheduler works I'll have to find a solution that runs as a service.

sure there is, although it can wrap quickly. When in scheduled tasks in the tool menu, there is an entry for logs (or something to that effect; I forget).

I never found the logs.

But just for closer on this thread I went back to 5 minute polling on a fresh install.

I used KA Firetask with Firedaemon as a service and haven't had a gap yet...

CPU is less than 2% for each processor. Paging is a touch over 2GB.。。
