Unavailability of additional network port

Post by frankielau »

Hi,

I'm a newbie in using Cacti and would seek your help in solving the problem described below.

I'd setup the Cacti to monitor the up/down & Tholds for 30 devices (incl. Windows servers & network devices). For some Windows servers, there's two network ports installed, one connects to internal network while the other one connects to the Internet. In order to monitor the up/down of the Internet port, we configure @ Management - Devices tab (using "ICMP Ping" method) and got "ICMP Ping Success" when we save. However, in monitor tab, it shows DOWN.

In the Cacti server, we can ping that Internet port as but failed to snmpwalk it. And in the cacti.log, entries "UPD: Ping timed out" are found.

In addition, there's no problem for the internal network port (which we can monitor its up/down & utilizations).

Here's the O/S & Cacti & plugin versions:
Ubuntu 10.10
Cacti - version 0.8.7g
Monitor - 1.2
Settings - 0.7
Syslog - 1.21
Thold - 0.4.1

Thanks,
Frankie
