I've searched but "mysql" and "5.5" is to common and to short...
I just installed cacti 0.8.7g with MySQL 5.5.13 and can only get "root" user to work with the cacti db. No matter what permissions "cacti" has it still gives:
FATAL: Cannot connect to MySQL server on 'localhost'. Please make sure you have specified a valid MySQL database name in 'include/config.php'
and phpmyadmin under processes shows: unauthenticated user.
But if I change $database_username to "root" in config.php I get the cacti install screen. Ideas?
I've also enabled --old-passwords, and tried new and old format on the "cacti" user.
I could go back and install 5.1 but would rather use 5.5 if it's known to work.

Re: MySQL 5.5 Issue?
Well I couldn't find anything related to the problem I was having so I uninstalled 5.5.13 and installed 5.1.57 and it worked. Not sure what the problem was but I'll keep 5.1.57 for now.
Is there any advantage to 5.5.x from 5.1.x? In other words, should I worry about trying to get 5.5.13 working or is there no advantage?
Thanks..

Re: MySQL 5.5 Issue?
Well I decided to try again since I couldn't find a similar issue online.
Uninstalled 5.1.x and reinstalled 5.5.x. No problems, worked like a charm...
Edit: I went back to 5.1.x due to other issues.
