Upgrade from 0.8.7d to 0.8.7g SCRIPT problems

Post by eschoeller »

After an upgrade last night several scripts aren't working and I'm having difficulty diagnosing the problem. An example:

Code: Select all

05/12/2011 11:35:06 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[73] TH[1] DS[2110] SCRIPT: perl /usr/local/cacti-0.8.7g/scripts/tomcatstats.pl HOST.DOMAIN.COM:8444 user areallycoolpassword jk-9999, output: 0
And of course, running it from the command line, as the apache user (which runs the poller)

Code: Select all

perl /usr/local/cacti-0.8.7g/scripts/tomcatstats.pl HOST.DOMAIN.COM:8444 user areallycoolpassword jk-9999
jvm_memory_free:217813272 jvm_memory_max:1912602624 jvm_memory_total:319422464 connector_max_time:13677 connector_error_count:0 connector_bytes_sent:45023709 connector_processing_time:367024 connector_request_count:6905 connector_bytes_received:0 connector_current_thread_count:8 connector_min_spare_threads:4 connector_max_threads:600 connector_max_spare_threads:50 connector_current_threads_busy:5
So, the tomcatstats script is not working, in addition to some ILOM data collection scripts I wrote. Other scripts are working just fine. I kicked up the debugging but can't find a root cause here. Also tried rebuilding the poller cache a couple times.

I'm also seeing ERROR: Not enough arguments from spine (also 0.8.7g) but it's difficult to determine if those are being generated from these failed scripts or not. I am going to disable the data sources for the failed scripts and see if those errors go away.

Any help or ideas?!?

I switched to cmd.php from SPINE and these scripts are now working correctly. So, I believe I have identified a problem with spine 0.8.7g. I am going to start working backwards through the versions to find where the regression is occuring, but in the meantime my poller runtime is 45 seconds instead of 15 !!

Again, any pointers welcome.

See this topic:

I'm not sure about prior version of Spine,
but jehan.procaccia says: "(that did worked in previous cacti versions though ...)", so you may experience same situations.

Thanks, I actually determined that I was bitten by this bug:

http://bugs.cacti.net/view.php?id=1669

patching and re-compiling spine fixed the problem for me.

Are you familiar with applying patches using the 'patch' command?

You need to apply patches to both the Cacti source and the Spine source.

Cacti patches: http://cacti.net/download_patches.php
Spine patches: http://cacti.net/spine_download_patches.php

There are simple instructions on how to apply the patches on both of those pages.

Thank you!

I fix that with your help.
