I tried to install Cacti-0.8.7g_1.95.exe on a server that previously had Cacti 0.8.7d installed. I uninstalled the old MySQL from the Add/Remove program and removed MySQL directory as well as the "cacti" directory under inetpub\wwwroot. Then proceeded to install 0.8.7g, the install ran fine to completion but I can't bring up the Cacti login afterward. I noticed the Cacti-installer.log has the following error "error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'".

Re: .8.7g failed to create Cacti database
I took the same install file and ran it on a server that does not have Cacti installed before and everything went fine. Cacti came up without any problem. Any tricks on how to get rid of MySQL completely?

Re: .8.7g failed to create Cacti database
After you removed mysql, did you reboot?
Did you purge the old mysql files it left?

Re: .8.7g failed to create Cacti database
Yes, I rebooted a couple of times. Finally, I got over the instal problem, I found a "mysql" directory under c:\documents and settings\all users\application data, it still has some old data files. After deleting the entire mysql directory, the install went through perfectly. So glad seeing my Cacti screen back. Thanks.

Re: [solved] .8.7g failed to create Cacti database
Hi all,
I am currently using previous version with mysql database. I want to try this windows installer. the question is that Can I backup current database first and restore after completing new installation?

Re: [solved] .8.7g failed to create Cacti database
Probably... but why do you want to use the installer when you already have an cacti installation? If you're trying to upgrade, then follow the upgrade instructions instead.
