Snmp error + snmpwalk timeout

Post by romero »

The cacti is installed on a CentOS server monitoring 30 differents linux servers and also a windows server 2008.
I've tried everything I could but it just doesn't work, i get this Snmp error message when i open the Device management...

SNMP Information
SNMP error

the SNMP Community is correctly set up as well as the snmp protocol running on the Windows Server..
There's no anti-vírus running there, and i also tried stopping the firewall, but it didn't help at all.

the network infraestructure is basically like this:

(CACTI SERVER RUNNING ON CENTOS) (WINDOWS SERVER 2008)
|------------------------------------------->|
|<-------------------------------------------|

I have no clue on how to fix this...

Could you guys give me a hand?

At first, please check accessibility of SNMP from Cacti server to target host.

% snmpget -v1 -c COMMUNITY TARGET-IP sysName.0

Okay, i've done it and got this message:

Timeout: No response from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.

Well, the XXX thing is the windows server 2008 IP Address...
Also, it's pinging normally.. it doesn't take more than 0.900ms to reply

The device keeps showing the status as Down.

PS: All the graphics are there, but there's no data running on them!

the snmp agent on windows is either misconfigured or a firewall is blocking snmp traffic.

I don't think so, I tried to snmpwalk the server from a different host and it was succesfull.

It means that the firewall is not blocking the snmp traffic and that it's not misconfigured as well.

Any other ideas? :(

Configuring the SNMP Service (Microsoft TechNet)

Please check security settings:

Cacti uses snmpget/walk under the covers. Does the cacti technical support page show any errors? Do you see the php snmp module loaded? settings -> paths show any issues with the net-snmp binaries? snmpwalked the problem box FROM the cacti server?

Settings > Paths: [OK: FILE FOUND] for everything.

And the configuration on Figure 5-8 posted by noname is exactly like I did (Obviously I've used the correct IP address and the correct Community, however the public community is also available there)

I have just reinstalled the Windows Server 2008 SNMP but it's not working yet.

Until you can successfully snmpwalk FROM the cacti server TO the problem server, then Cacti will continue to have issues as well.
