monitor temptrax temperature values via snmp?

Post by tserreyn »

Ok I know someone else has to have done this before.

I have a temptraxe device that monitors temperature.

a partial OID walk looks like the following:

.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.1.0 = STRING: "temptrax.serreyn.com"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.2.0 = STRING: "E4"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.3.0 = STRING: "Sensatronics"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.4.0 = STRING: "http://www.sensatronics.com/"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.5.0 = STRING: "3.4"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.6.0 = STRING: "July 7, 2004 "
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.7.0 = STRING: "EA1F2H1T143"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.8.0 = INTEGER: 1
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.1.9.0 = INTEGER: 4
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 20480
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.2.0 = STRING: "10.20.20.240"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.3.0 = STRING: "255.255.255.0"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.4.0 = STRING: "10.20.20.1"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.5.0 = INTEGER: 80
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.1.6.0 = INTEGER: 0
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.2.1.1.0 = ""
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.2.3.1.0 = STRING: "F"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.1.1.0 = STRING: "Probe 1"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.1.2.0 = STRING: "63.0"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.1.3.0 = INTEGER: 63
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.2.1.0 = STRING: "Probe 2"
.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.2.2.0 = STRING: "69.4"

I would like to graph the real string variables example in .1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.1.3.1.2.0

However when I try to use the generic oid template I get snmp errors and no data is collected.

I do have dashes and numbers in my variable names.

Ideas?

Same problem here. I'm going to guess that since it doesn't support the standard SNMP device name/description OID, Cacti won't pickup it's available (when you add it, it just returns "SNMP Error") and reports it as down.

Anyone have a way around this? Perhaps a way to tell Cacti just to take my word for it when I say its there and is an SNMP v1 device and not check it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I set it to check the host's health by ICMP ping only and that got it going fine.

How did you force it to use icmp for host health???

just try with .3 not .2, because NMS programs like cacti can only import integer values (without commas). Also, you will need to change under your cacti settings the host up identify method to only ping, and ICMP type, because the temptrax doesn't support UDP pings or SNMP up queries.

Under Configuration, click Settings, then the Poller tab, then set "Ping Type" to "ICMP Ping". Be sure to set "Downed Host Detection" right above it to "Ping - Faster Option with Risk" too.
