[solved] No interface labels on graphs

Post by hammond1 »

We are retiring our old Cacti server (OS = Win2K Pro) and I have installed the latest Windows Installer Package (V 1.95) on the new server (OS = Windows 2008 Server) and have graphs, all seems well except - no labels on my graphs. This makes things difficult when trying to look at something with say over 200 interfaces on it. I looked in Graph Management and found the template to be Interface - Traffic (bits/sec) and in the Supplemental Graph Template Data I see "|host_description| - Traffic - ethernetx/x" in the Title Graph Field (the name that is printed on the graph) and yet the contents of that field are NOT appearing in my graphs on the new server. Thanks in advance for any assistance which would of course be greatly appreciated.

OS: Windows 2008 Server R2
Web Server: Apache 2.2
Cacti: 0.8.7g
Spine: Not sure - no version info in any of the text files or in the file properties of spine.exe
MySql: 5.1
PHP: 5.2.14
RRDTool:1.2.3
Net-SNMP: 5.5-2
CygWin: cygwin1.dll file not present

1) any reason you didn't migrate your existing install to the new server?
2) in the verbose query for the snmp interface statistics... do you see the interface titles?
3) there are ZERO graph titles? screenshot please. Possibly have an invalid rrdtool font path specified in settings.

1) no GOOD reason not to import from the old server
2) yes I see the interface information in the verbose query i.e. doesn't appear to be a "data gathering" problem here to me at least
3) screen shot attached

The RRDTool Default Font field is empty. What should it contain?

A full path to a valid windows font ;). I'd suggest a monospaced font.

Ahh if only I had READ THE ACTUAL TEXT next to the field. I had input paths to FOLDERS containing font files but the text does state "For RRDtool 1.2, the path to the True Type Font File." ergo I was getting "DIR ERROR" when I clicked SAVE. So I input "c:/rrdtool.exe/VeraMono.ttf" and was able to save without any errors and the result is:

Moderator, sorry for bugging you again but I cannot seem to find how to edit my post so it shows as Solved. I see this text on the lower right:

You can post new topics in this forum
You can reply to topics in this forum
You can edit your posts in this forum
You cannot delete your posts in this forum
You can post attachments in this forum

But I see no manner in which I can actually edit the post. I tried going to "View Your Posts" and didn't find anything, also went to the User Control Panel and found quite a few things I could do but editing my posts wasn't one of them. Please show me how to do that so I don't have to bother you again about this.

Thanks for your help!

under your first post, isn't there an edit button? If not, then the admin needs to get notified so users can mark their own posts... I get tired of doing it for them :P

Yes there is an edit button and I see I can simply edit the subject line to include "[solved]" so I'll do that on all future posts assuming I remember this - challenging proposition at times

Thank you,

Steve
