Threshold auto-naming to use templates?

Post by Tolaris »

I'm new to Threshold. So far it is excellent and I thank you all for your hard work.

I created one threshold template, to alert when hard drive space exceeds 90%. This uses Host MIB - Hard Drive Space, hdd_used, and Data Type Percent, and hdd_total. It works as expected.

I create thresholds for each host in console by:
1. Browse to a device
2. Create Graphs for this Host
3. Auto-create thresholds

My test host has two monitored filesystems, / and /home. When I auto-create the thresholds, both are named:

server.example.com - Hard Drive Space [hdd_used]
server.example.com - Hard Drive Space [hdd_used]

It would be more useful if they were:

server.example.com - Hard Drive Space - /
server.example.com - Hard Drive Space - /home

The generated name doesn't seem to follow a template, and isn't related to the game of the template. For instance, I'd like to set something like:

Threshold name: |host_description| - Used Space - |query_hrStorageDescr|

Is there any way to do this?

Yes, but it means renaming the graph.
Console -> Graph Management -> (Edit) TITLE

No automatic way of doing this, unless Autom8 has a way.

Unfortunately, renaming the graph breaks the inheritance from the template. If I then change the template, the renamed graph does not inherit the change.
