Hi folks,
I'm maintaining a script - on this forum - that installs cacti, PIA, and various plugins , I've been asked to add the syslog plugin into the installation script but this particular plugin has a significant impact on the system so I need help from people who know this plugin, or at least who know syslogs better than I do.
Here are my first questions :
- I don't know whether I should use "syslog-ng" or the new default syslog for debian 5.0 "rsyslog", I'm pretty sure Debian builders had their reason to choose the rsyslog deamon.
- I don't know what kind of local logs should be embedded as a default setup
- I'm not sure that using the cacti Db is a good option, "core" deamons tend to run in mysterious ways to me (I'm actually wondering if it's a good idea for every plugins but that's a different story)
Regards,
Deel
