Boost - blank graph until boost runs

I am having an issue, I have set boost to cache more info, so it doesn't run as often. The problem I am running into is that if I look at a graph, there is no data since the last time boost ran. Once boost runs, all the data is there.

I thought the Enable On Demand RRD Updating setting was for this?

the performance of the box is good, I just want boos to run less often so I can get a backup done.

The poller runs in cron as root, and I did a chown -R root:apache /rra so all the RRDs show root and apache as the owners.

Am I missing something, or am I mis-understanding how boost works?

Forgot, I am running 0.8.7g with boost 4.2 on Centos 5.5 64bit.

I noticed that boost was running as the apache user but the poller in cron is running as root. I tried switching boost to run as root, but I never saw it try to write the RRA's. Since I wasn't sure how to restart boost, I just rebooted the server. The only thing I saw in the logs was:
BOOST SVR: Poller[0] WARNING: Detected Poller Boost Overrun, Possible Boost Poller Crash
But I also saw that when I switched boost back to using Apache and rebooting again. After I switched it back, it works the way it did before.

I tried running the poller as apache with this line in cron:
*/1 * * * * apache php /var/www/html/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1
Then I was getting errors that started with Poller[0] ERROR: SQL Assoc Failed!, Error:'2006', SQL:"SELECT when the poller ran.

Could the mis-match between the boost user and the poller be causing my issue, or am I looking at the wrong thing?

I changed all the RRD files to be owned by apache, they were owned by root before. Still the same thing, anyone have any other ideas?

Did you set up the boost_server.php to run as a daemon (see README for that)? Please see "System Utilities -> Boost Stats" for some more info

I just enabled it. I just went off the docs on the page http://docs.cacti.net/plugin:boost and didn't realize there was more info in the README.

Unfortunately there is no change in the behavior. I ran it as service cacti_rrdsvc start [debug] but the only entry in the log file is that the RRDtool service started.

Did you check by "telnet localhost 9050" and then issuing "status"?

I get "Server Status OK" then get disconnected.

This is which version of mysql?
How did you define poller_output_boost (using a text field or a varchar?)
