Cool. Glad to see someone using it I keep adding this little things, and I never know if anyone uses them!

I've been thinking about adding some kind of anonymous feature-use survey to it, so I can see which parts are used most, and which aren't used at all. It would just dump out a list of numbers or an xml file or something after a poller-run, counting how many times various things appear, average nodes-per-map and that kind of thing.

In my opinion its the easiest way to create maps with switchports if your not working with a grid, as some of the examples in this thread do.
Anyway you've created an very usable and nice plugin, keep up the good work

Platform: 0.8.7b PA: 2.0 Weathermap: 0.95b

All 3 Companies reside in a single XLS document with a custom coded VB macro to iterate all items and create a config file. When the macro is run it asks which client I'm creating the config for and then iterates all items on their appropriate sheets.

Each switchport changes color depending on it's state Green = Up, Blue = Uplink Up, Red = Down.

Thanks to the person who originally posted their XLS version as it gave me the idea to do something similar as these monster config files were getting difficult to manage. It has greatly helped in the creation of maps for different clients. It is now exponentially easier to move things around unlike before where it was virtually impossible.

-nested templates (5 templates (start with DD_) in the include file are used for attached map)
-relative positions for all but one NODE's

Oke, want to show off with the graphical results of my Cacti project. Im showing you one of the weathermaps i've made and will explain a few things about it.

The first image is the default overview of the weathermap. I've made these images myself, and the globes in the images will change if the state of the devices changes.

In this image, you can see what happens if i hold my mouse over one of the devices. The screen with SNMP data (written by MGB) will pop-up and show live information about the device. (Link to the topic)

The second image, is the tumbnail view of the weathermap. We have the weathermaps changing the background color when a device in the weathermap goes down. This displays how the background changes. (Link to the topic)

Maybe it will inspire other people for their weathermaps.

Hi, my name is Chris and I'm a Weathermap addict

I officially admit my addiction to cacti and the amazing Weathermap plugin...not only do I use it extensively at work, I've also got it running on my network at home monitoring just about everything I can think of LOL...and even converted three PCs and a Netbook to Ubuntu rather than Windows 7 to make it easier for me to monitor stats haha...

Anyway, here are some of my home weathermaps...first one shows my network along with performance/capacity stats for each of the PCs...the '3D' box for each PC are actually just two icons, one on top of another, so there is no background to this map...everything is a node so it can be moved around. I'm pulling out hardware sensor info via the lm-sensors MIB, disk temperatures via the smartmon tool (although I've got some Intel X25-M SSDs that obviously don't give out temperature info!) and everything else on the PCs via Net-SNMP. For the ADSL stats I'm pulling SNR Margin, Attenuation, Connection Speed and Traffic from my Billion Router. I've also got a script that runs in Cron to generate an XML feed of my ISP traffic usage every 30 minutes, so I use this to track my monthly peak/offpeak ADSL plan usage (300GB peak, 300GB offpeak).

The second weathermap shows my NAS share usage...again, everything is an icon so it can easily be moved around...not a big fan of having to position nodes around backgrounds! I like to keep track of much each share is using so this is useful...especially when I discovered there was over 1TB of obsolete backups in the backup share!! The info is generated from a script that runs on the NAS once a day to gather file and capacity information for each share that I've setup.

The other weathermap is my latest creation...an actual weather weathermap!! Background is the map of Australia...I have a script running under cron that pulls in XML feeds for over 30 weather stations around Australia (I live in Perth, Western Australia) and then pulls out Temperature, Humidity, Rainfall, Wind Speed and Wind Gusts. I then use this data to create a weather 'index' - a value between 1 and 10 that gives an overview of the current weather at that station, e.g. 1 = Cold and Dry, 4 = Very Hot and Dry, 5 = Heavy Rain etc...then I use a scale tag for this index to change the Icon image depending on the weather!! So this really is a dynamic weathermap in every sense of the word!

I'm also getting XML feeds from another 30-40 cities around the world, so the next one will be a "world weather weathermap"!!

Hi,

Got addicted to weathermap a since a couple of months, we use it at work and when the old network admin left, the job has been given to me to keep updating the weathermap... That got a bit out of hand... First I just updated the map... yet there was to much garbage in the code... So I took some spare time at home to create a new one... Clean and complete

Yet that was just the beginning as it only included routers + coreswitches. Next I started on a map for Switch level, where I put a lot of time in and was great to work on. Yet I wasn't really happen as I couldn't put everything in the map I wanted. (I simply lacked space) Didn't bother me to much, as I could simply look at the other map to see the remaining things.

Yet this week I had a lot of time on my hands at work again, and I spend a day creating a new map. (I found parallel links)

And this is the result, I have to admit, it won't win the beauty contest, (still working on that) yet it does the job.

Question, the port status color, are they dynamic or static, meaning, are you specifying which is green or red or whatever or is some kind of call coming from cacti determining the color state. If it is dynamic, can someone give a short howto on getting this working? I have looked all over and i can't place my finger on how to actually do it correctly and i have a ton of core switches in my network i would really like to do this on. keep in mind, most of my interfaces are Layer 2 interfaces not Layer 3 interfaces, so i am trying to figure out what to set up.
