Weird, some broken images in graphs but not all

Post by zuasive »

Alright this one is strange, for some reason on some of my graphs I have broken images but not all. What are the ideal chron/poller settings? Will boost help this?

I've seen some errors with the Poller and Chron in the event log but have since corrected those issues it was specifically with chron taking longer than 1 minute.

It's very strange but if I re-create the hosts and data it works fine. I'm going to try to extend the chron and poller to five minutes and see what happens. If anyone has any input though please post, thanks.

Alright, I ended up setting my cron and poller back to the original 1 minute settings and have started dividing out the workload by creating separate devices since our switches have 300+ ports. That seems to help although I still get the broken contain a refresh yields success for the most part. No errors in my logs at all.

Why would only some of the polled interfaces still have broken images when there are no indicative errors?

One issue might be a target timeout.
Another one would be, that index are not matching any more (e.g. some interfaces were removed/newly created); a reindex should help, then.

Thanks gandalf, as you may have noticed I've been a bit active. It's just because this is my firs foray into Cacti and I must admit even though I get frustrated I do love the results.

The fix here was actually hardware. I was running the system on an old dell gx270 desktop pc
Specs:
2.8ghz P4
1GB Ram (shared with video)
40GB (ATA or PATA as they call it now)

It started grinding to a halt as soon as I put our 7 Catalyst 4500 on there along with mactracking. That would be approximately 500 ports it's monitoring so I figured the bottle neck would be hardware. Sure enough I dumped it onto a bit of a nicer pc still a desktop but a Core 2 duo with 4gb of ram and a SATA raid stripe and it hums along nicely.

Both my developer and myself have learned a whole lot about the system (not nearly enough) though so it's been worth the pain. Hopefully I can help out here some too.

I'd like to advertise my set of poller performance scripts, featured at the 4th link of my sig. This will give you more control over the polling system, hopefully
