mass import of external rrd files

Hi,

I'm trying to use cacti as a frontend to my collection of rrd files (around 1k of them) - I've been able to successfully add and graph a few of them as a test following the "Externally Updated RRDs" manual section.

Is there any way for me to automate addition of these files to cacti?
The first obstacle I've noticed is that there doesn't seem to be a way of scripting addition of a data source with a unique .rrd source path, which is required for externallly updated RRDs.

Would be greatful for any help or pointers here.
