Graphing the same datasource over different time frames

Post by joanypony »

Hi,
I'm not sure if what I'm looking for is possible on Cacti, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.. What I need to do is to graph data - eg response time, and then compare this on a week by week basis. So ideally, I'd be able to create a graph on the fly, that would have 4 things graphed on it. These would be response time for week1, week2, week3 and week4. Is this possible? Does it come as part of any particular reporting plugin? Is there a name for this type of graph? Thanks.

Regards,
Joan

Hi,
Afraid not, I want 1 graph where I have the response times of 1 data source graphed 4 times. So one graph with 4 lines, each a different week in the life of the same data source. Attached is document with 2 weeks data being compared side by side - I didn't generate this graph but it's the sort of thing I'd like to be able to do.

Joan

Currently, this is not possible. But 088 will have such a feature. The method to get that result is using "shift" function of newer rrdtool versions. See e.g. http://www.vandenbogaerdt.nl for a description of that feature

Hi,
That's perfect, thank you so much for pointing me towards it.. Speaking of 088 - are we talking weeks, months, years? :)
I've been the cacti witch in work for the last 8 months so I'm very interested.
Thanks,
Joan

I don't say nothing in this regard anymore. Don't want to be flamed. Latest info says, that there's only a small chance for more code reviews in this year. Parts are working and parts are not ... sigh

Ah sorry, is probably as rude as asking a PHD student when they'll be finished.. :) Good luck with it all anyhow..
