Graph Titles aren't loading query_ifAlias
Hi. I have a few Cisco devices that we poll in Cacti. Looking in the Cacti database, I see that it pulled in the interface descriptions as ifAlias as it should. In fact, if I edit a single graph and change the title to include |query_ifAlias| it shows in the title, so I know the data is there.
I wanted all of the graphs to use a different title format as to include the ifAlias value. So, I did the following:
1) Went to Data Queries
2) Selected "SNMP - Interface Statistics," which is the method we are collecting this data.
3) Selected the graph template we are using: "In/Out Bits with 95th Percentile"
4) For "Graph Template" I added a new entry and moved it to the top: "|host_description| - |query_ifAlias| - |query_ifName|"
5) Went to Graph Management
6) Selected the graphs I wanted to update the title for and selected to "Reapply Suggested Names"
On doing this, the title still stayed the same: "|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName|" In fact, even if I remove all the Graph Templates and leave only the one I added, it still uses the old title format.
If I go and edit a single graph directly, and change the title to "|host_description| - |query_ifAlias| - |query_ifName|" the title shows correctly with the ifAlias.
What am I doing wrong? I want the suggested name to use the ifAlias in the title.

That process sounds correct.
What cacti version, patches, and PIA?
Do newly graphs inherit the updating graph title you made?
Are you SURE you edited the default graph title and not the data template title?

I have the exact same issue. Any hint how to solve this?
Re: Graph Titles aren't loading query_ifAlias
same questions I asked the OP would then apply to you too.

Yes, 100% identical. This issue can be reproduced any time.BSOD2600 wrote:same questions I asked the OP would then apply to you too.
Re: Graph Titles aren't loading query_ifAlias
The process outlined by the original poster works for me...using either the GUI or CLI Script for "Reapply Suggested Names".
Cacti 0.8.7g
PIA 0.8.7g
All current patches
Cacti 0.8.7g
PIA 0.8.7g
All current patches

I was about to suggest that too, as it has happened to me too many timesBSOD2600 wrote:Are you SURE you edited the default graph title and not the data template title?
The only other solution I can think of is that the graph was generated using a different Data Query than the one you are trying to edit.
I am on 8.7b and the above mentioned method works AOK for me.

Re: Graph Titles aren't loading query_ifAlias
I am facing the same issue BUT for only one device. I applied maximum of given solutions but not fruitful. I'm running Version 0.8.8b.
The output of verbose query shows:
+ Found item [ifName='xe-0/1/0.3'] index: 984 [from value]
+ Located input field 'ifAlias' [walk]
+ Executing SNMP walk for data @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18'
+ Located input field 'ifType' [walk]
+ Executing SNMP walk for data @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.3'
While the output of similar (another) device shows:
+ Found item [ifName='xe-1/1/0.3'] index: 1485 [from value]
+ Found item [ifName='xe-1/1/0.32767'] index: 1486 [from value]
+ Located input field 'ifAlias' [walk]
+ Executing SNMP walk for data @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18'
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 1 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 4 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 5 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 6 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 7 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 8 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 9 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 10 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 11 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 12 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 13 [from value]
+ Found item [ifAlias=''] index: 16 [from value]
So, first query doesn't show any output against query_ifalias.
Any suggestion please.

Re: Graph Titles aren't loading query_ifAlias
If you manually snmpwalk .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 against the problematic device, does it return data?
Sure there arent any config differences between the two devices?

hi,
Sorry for late joining. yes, I do get the snmp response. More over, I also tried the trick of "check/uncheck" but no luck in graph title
