Cacti Thold Multiple Thold Templates Per Graph Not Possible

Post by kidzeivo »

Hi all,
I want to configure cacti thold plugin to trigger an alert when a High/Low is breached for a particular graph. For the same graph I will like to configure a trigger for when the baseline Deviation Down 50 % is breached. Is this possible with my current installation

Cacti 0.8.7e
Settings 0.5
Thold 0.4.1
Weathermap 0.96a

Thanks for all in advance.

To Use Multiple Thold Templates Per Graph. I duplicated the graph by creating another Device with description Device 2.

Now Device 1 has a graph for interface Gi1/1 and Device 2 has a graph for interface Gi1/1. But Device 1 and Device 2 are the same device.

I then applied a HIGH/LOW template to the graph of Device 1 interface Gi1/1 and BASELINE template to the graph of Device 2 interface Gi1/1 (these are the same graphs).

My problem is:
Threshold is checked only for Device 2. The device on which I applied the BASELINE template.

Does anybody has any ideas why?

Thanks in advance.

I have a patched Thold 0.3.9 that allows multiple thresholds per DS, but I haven't had time to update it to 0.4.1 or newer yet.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Hi Howie,
Can I have the patched and a rough explanation of what it does? Thanks in advance.

If you like. It might need to you to delete existing thresholds - I don't know how the database has changed between 0.3.9 and 0.4.1. I'll try and tar it up this afternoon if I get a chance.

Alert Escalation

Post by raditg »

There is another benefit of having multiple thresholds per datasource; you can create different alerting mechanisms for the same problem. For example the system can alert helpdesk for a threshold breach immediately and alert tech ppl if the alert is on for several hours.

Hovie, if you can please post your patched version of thold

Thanks

This is exactly what we use it for. We have 2 alerts for 1 DS, to implement escalation, and also different alerting policies for different clients.

The patches against 0.3.9 are on the cactiusers.org forum. I didn't really want to release a 'fork', but since I will be maintaining it for myself anyway, I might do when I get time to get it working with 0.4.1

I had a look at cactiusers.org but can't find it anywhere. The number of posts per day isn't that high so assuming it was from this week I scanned all forums but didn't find it.

Would you please post a link to the relevant post, please.

I just installed thold 0.39. I have created 4 threshold templates: 2 HIGH/LOW template for traffic in and traffic out and 2 Baseline template for traffic in and traffic out.

I then succeeded to apply them on an interface.
Still investigating if the alerts are correctly generated.

Thanks to all.

Hello Howie,

I had a look at the patch but I'm having troubles because it looks like its not done against a clean .39 archive of thold.
I had one still in backup and compared your version, thanks for the link, but can't make head or tail of it.

Wanted to incorperate your changes into .41 but looking at what you did and the source of .41 I see somethings are already done and some probably not but since the structure of .41 changed quite a bit I'm unable to comple it myself.

I'm hoping you find some spare time to update the patch to .41 or someone else does.

Thanks for the help sofar,

Joop

Well, I've attached a zip of my (running) thold folder. The setup.php isn't changed so you'd still need to apply HOWIE-SQL after thold has created database tables.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to, and the changes would make it into 0.41 :-) Anyway, I won't be doing it anytime soon, because it seems 0.5 might be just around the corner (someone else on this forum is posting 0.5/svn support requests).
