CACTI with Multiple Values [newbie question]

Post by Lucas Rey »

Hello all,
I'm absolutely new on CACTI, and I followed the "Simplest Method" to create the first chart (located here: http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... T_TO_GRAPH)

Well, now I need to understand how simply add another value to the same chart.
Reading the DOC I found the following:
Data input methods with more than one output field are handled a bit differently when writing scripts. Scripts that output more than one value should be formatted like the following:
<fieldname_1>:<value_1> <fieldname_2>:<value_2> ... <fieldname_n>:<value_n>
Well, I'll modify the perl script to output data as reported in the DOC:
e.g.: value1:120 value2:230

But how to pass to cacti these values to generate one single chart with those?

Thanks!

Thanks for reply BSOD, is now clear how to insert the values into the chart, but I still don't understand how to split the script output!!! I mean the output will be:
val1:123 val2:456 val3:789 .....

Now, how can assign to catli these values to the chart like:
Item # 1 = val1
Item # 2 = val2
Item # 3 = val3

Please advice!

Lucas,

Outputs of this can in fact be done as described/desired. As BSOD states the docs are pretty good on the way to do this. I had to recently put together a graphs based on script output and followed the docs to accomplish this. When I get into work on Monday I can scrap together my process/example and post it for you to see if it helps. I am learning more and more about this tool as each scenario goes by so I understand your position. The developers have done a pretty good job on the documentation so it is always good to read (and read again what they put out).
