graph aggregation

Post by leventkurt »

hi there,

im using cacti for about two years long, two years ago when i first met cacti, one of the biggest problem was to sum 2 or more graphs to receive one.

what i did was to add new CDEFs (like cdef=a,b,+,8,*) and build graph templates like "Summary of 2".

today i need a new sum graph in my new job; i have to sum lot of interfaces, like 11 in 1, 18 in 1. i didn' t want to create these CDEFs and Templates, instead i look into forums and see gandalf's aggregate plugin.

so i installed and have a try. but this is clearly not i wanted. what i want is to have a graph, and only totals under the graph. graph that i attached is actually what i wanted, but this is sooo manual comparing to the one's of gandalf's plugin.

is there any other plugin to sum up graphs? or am i doing something wrong in gandalf's plugin?

The plugin aggregates stuff graphically. You may want to stack the individual graphs. But summing data sources is not (yet) supported. It's the most wanted feature by now.
You may add a new item manually and use the CDEF pseudo variable SIMILAR_DATA_SOURCES_NODUPS or TOTAL_DATA_SOURCES_NODUPS for summation

How do I install? The documentation says to use the Plugin Management. Where to get it?

Number of items to sum

Post by joseme »

Hi
I realized that aggregation only can sum 12 independent graphs, I want to sum 15 graphs, I don't got the image when I try to do it. Please, can you tell me if it's possible to sum more than 12 graphs?...
thanks

How did you manage to figure out it stops at 12 graphs?

max graphs agregate

Post by joseme »

Hi:
Well, I was using "Agregate" to sum/add 3,6 7,12 graphs witouth troubles, but when I try to agregate 15 , I couldn 't see the graph!!!, so I tried with 14, then 13 (it didn't work), when I used 12 It works!!, so I think that only can sum/add max 12 graphs.

have you tried in your labs this situation?...

Thanks

Personally I did not, but there are screenshots for such aggregates. The code is not supposed to stop at any reasonable limit. The only limit I'm aware of is the commandline limit of the OS that may restrict the length of the whole rrdtool command to a fixed number of bytes. I never hit such a limit.

I only know that cmd.php is very limited in command line length. So shortening anything may help. Please ask BSOD2600 for better advice
