Hi
quick question about cacti. I am installing for the first time on win2k.
I have apache2.052, cacti 0.8.6b, mysql-4.1.7, php-5.0.2 and rrdtool-1.0.48.
These i have installed all by the manual
http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... ndows.html
marvellous. Got past the point where apache didnt recognise the mysql bit of php, now i have confirmed that using the test script.
Now i get the message
Cannot connect to MySQL server on 'lcmlo-winserv01'. Please make sure you have specified a valid MySQL database name in 'include/config.php'
with config.php (under c:\apache\apache2\htdocs\cacti\include) reading those lines
$database_type = "mysql";
$database_default = "cacti";
$database_hostname = "lcmlo-winserv01";
$database_username = "cactiuser";
$database_password = "cactiuser";
I can connect, on command line to mysql using the username and password..... I can show the tables created in the cacti part
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Jools

while waiting for a reply to the my question i have been reading other problems through the board.
One of the most popular seems to be the PHP integration with apache.
You can get round having to put the php.ini file into c:\winnt by adding a variable to httpd.conf
PHPIniDir "c:\php"
I found this in the install.txt of php, not sure is it works on earlier than apache2

There is a post with a password fix to allow MySQL 4.1.x to work with Cacti. You can find it in this Win32 forum.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?

I tried the oldpassword fix to alter the hashing, and did not get any closer. I admit freely I may have done it wrong. However, all i know is i was getting nowhere fast with the later version of mysql.... once i backdated things fell together properly as per the install manual, with no further problems.
thanks

Bluejools,
The procedure should work as it is working for others. Hope you find that needle in the haystack. Otherwise, backing off allows you to sleep better. Especially on a production system.
