How to rise resolution of existing rrd's?

Post by D34thCr4z3 »

Hi,

I have successfully converted my old mrtg log files to rrd files for use with cacti. But now I'd like to have cacti fetch data all 5 minutes and store those values even yearly in 5 minutes interval.

How can I convert the rrd from Yearly (1 Day Average) to Yearly (5 Minutes Average) [weekly & monthly respectivly :) ]

Thx in advance

You must use the rrdtool "resize" command. It will create a temporary file with a new name. Please search the posts, there are utilities and some warnings as well. Good luck. We would like to make this a utility in Cacti, but it will take some time.

Hi Witness,

tried that, but the problem is that after conversion all data older than 2 month isn't displayed on yearly graph anymore. Doesn't resize insert "fake" data?

Finally got it to work 8)
1 last question:

Can I tell Cacti to only graph max values if I view time ranges larger 3 days? Because my graphs are very blocky on the daily graphs, but for the weekly graphs the average values are much too small so I can't see them at all.

Post some screen captures. Also, how did you specifically "get it working". I am interested because what I have read in the forum is that you have to update the RRD's in intervals to prevent the NaN values from impacting the graphs.

Thanks,

I'm interested in your solution, too.
Recently, I just wantet to decrease the steps-value of one graph from 300 to 120, and the only way I got, was to entirely recreate the Data Source Item and therefore create an new rrd with the new steps-value. (obviously, any old data got lost)

Isn't there any way to update changes in the rrd (like the steps-value) from cacti?
