Why does importing a template update other standard graphs?

Post by jwhitaker »

Should I be concerned that when I download a template and import it (especially older ones), it almost always lists an update to "standard" graph templates such as in/out bits, in/out bytes, etc? I worry that I am going to end up with an out of date version of these standard items.

When using a host template that includes a graph template, exactly this will happen. So be careful if you don't know which graph templates are included in a host template.

Thanks for the clarification. Is there a way that I can easily refresh the graph templates back to the version I started with?

Only by exporting the templates from a temporary cacti installation.

With a fresh install of Cacti, is it enough to export the host templates with dependencies in order to refresh my working install? Should that get all of the other templates in the dependencies? Thanks much.

Yes, if you export the template(s) with 'Include Dependencies' enabled.

Personally, I'd only re-import the templates that got broken/overwritten.

Thanks. Problem is that I've been importing all kinds of device templates just to play around and try them out and at this point I have no idea what all has been "updated"! :o

Each time you import a new template, it will tell you what things have been created or updated.... always worth checking the updated items, since many template exporters don't think about what customizations they've made will affect others.
