[solved] This is odd (rrdtool issue)

Post by ksj »

I had to rebuild my Cacti box (Win2008r2 IIS 7.5, Cacti 0.8.7e, Win32 rrdtool 1.2.30, php 5.2.14, mysql 5.0.88, Spine 0.8.7e, cygwin 1.7.6, PIA 2.5).

I can add devices however RRDTool doesn't create the rrd files. I've been through the troubleshooting guide and still can't figure this out.

I can take the data source debug and manually create the rrd file, which is then updated by the poller just fine. It just won't create them (yes, I used the create graphs for this host UI) itself. I used the same account to create it that the poller scheduled task runs under, so it doesn't appear to be a permissions issue.

I've attached a technical support from the server and the log from the last poller run.

Any help is appreciated, this one has me stumped...

Edit - I have also used BSOD2600's excellent installation guide to help find the answer and have searched everything I could think of, but so far nothing has worked. I realize it's a common problem, but probably not so common where nothing indicates there is a problem. No access denied in procmon, nothing in the event log...

Never mind. I had boost set for 4 hour updates and when it ran it created the rrd & file. For whatever reason it wouldn't do it on demand.

Upgraded to Boost 4.2 and all is well again.
