Auto Expiring passwords & User change ability

Post by WizRd »

As passwords are rather static in cacti by default can someone provide me with information as to why http://forums.cacti.net/about4990.html& ... ssword/%22 was discussed in 2004 but it is nowhere to be seen in the current version? Was it just a bad idea? Can it be added into Cacti?

Also can someone point me in the right direction for a patch to allow auto expiring passwords after a certain number of days that forces the password change exactly the same way as the first time you login to Cacti as the admin user?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Brett

There has been a plugin written for this by one of the developers, but I'm not sure he can release it to the public. There is also a simple password plugin to allow users to change theirs.

I prefer to use either AD or LDAP. That way I never have to worry about it.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?

Thanks Witness!

I would use AD or LDAP but these are not implemented as yet on the network that Cacti is destined for.

I assume you mean the auto expiry of passwords plugin has been written by one of the developers... Are you able to ask them to contact me if they are willing to allow me to use it? I do understand that it would be unsupported but have a specific security requirement to address.

In the mean time I will try to locate teh password plugin you have mentioned!

Thanks,

Brett
