hi, can someone share with me what could possibily be the problem here ?
- cvs the cacti i.e. cacti-0.8
- create cacti mysql db
- installing cacti.sql schema
- grant permission to cacti user
- setup config.php.dist (both as config.php and config.php.dist) to have correct parameters
- setup php.ini
- fireup php cmd.php as cacti user
it responds with
Database not found???
else i believe cacti-0.8 ain't there yet for us to try out ?
cvs install ?

Don't expect the CVS version to work straight out of the box just yet. That's why 0.8 is not out, just yet.
I was rather intrigued with some of the changes, and did some hacking to get it to start up. I like the new look.
For some ideas, check out the config.php file. I noticed the default database was dev_cacti (or was it cacti_dev?) either way, I changed it to be just 'cacti' and did the fresh .sql import. That seemed to allow me to get in.
But then again, that was just me. Your mileage may vary.

Saying CVS *might* NOT work....
...Is like saying cars *might* be on the road this weekend.
Seriously, folks, 0.8 is in no condition to be used at all yet. Lots of the guts of it have been completely changed from previous versions so there are quite a few things that need to be rehacked (not the least of which is a poller - Anybody heard from Jeff, the Spine guy??) before anybody even *thinks* of beta testing it.
Don't get me wrong - it's absolutely great that people are anxiously anticipating the next release. Just don't jump the gun on us.
Rob.
